Do You Have Lower Back Pain?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Ilower_back_painf you are experiencing lower back pain, then you are not alone.  Tons of people suffer with lower back problems.  Most lower back pain is mainly because of muscle weakness, or imbalances in your hip flexors, hamstrings, abdominals, or lower back muscle groups.  Many physicians believe that the reason people have muscle weakness is because they do not have enough physical activity in your life and have too much extra body weight.  That is why exercise and being in shape is one of the main causes for helping your lower back problems.

So the goal is to get rid of that excess body fat around your midsection.  If you start dedicating yourself to a workout program that involves aerobic and core exercises, and resistance training then you are well on your way to improving your chances of a healthy lower back.

It is still important to check with your physician to make sure that your excess weight is the reason why your lower back is in pain.  There are other causes, liking straining or injury.  It is also very important to check with your physician before starting a workout program, to make sure you do not futher injure yourself.  When exercising or stretching your lower back, make sure that you are using proper from.  Here are a few exercises to help:

Lie on the floor facing upward, back on the ground.  Have your knees bent and your feet on the floor.  Slowly pull your right knee to your chest, and hold for 5-7 seconds.  Return your right knee to the bent position, then do the do the same thing with your left knee.  Always keep your knees bent.

Lie on the floor in the same position as the one above.  This time keep your knees together and slowly swivel your knees side to side for a 10 count.

The final exercise is called that cat stretch.  With your hand and knees on the floor arch your back just like a cat and hold for 5-7 seconds, then return to the relaxed position.  You can do this a few times if you need too.

Perform these exercises to help relieve some of your lower back pains.  If you are interested in a workout routine there are some great workout dvds like the P90x workout, the Insanity workout, or rev abs.  make sure you check with your physician before starting one of these workout routines.

Want To Jump Higher?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

P90X PlyometricsIn mostly all sports the vertical jump is super important.  Whether you are trying to grab a rebound in basketball, catch a high pass in football, spike a ball in volleyball,  jump for a header in soccer, or snag a line drive in baseball, the vertical jump is an important aspect in most sports.  We all are looking for ways to become better in our sport, and one of those ways we can have an edge on the competition is to have a high vertical jump.

Did you know that you can actually train yourself to jump higher?  It is called Plyometric training, also known as Jump training.  Plyometric training is very difficult, but if you stick with it, you will see some incredible results in your vertical jump.  Plyometric training will help you be more explosive and help provide you with faster and more powerful movements.

How does Plyometric training work?

It not only builds strength, but it also improves the function of your nervous system.  Causing quick muscle contractions, that will allow you to have more explosive movements.

If you do not have your own plyometric routine, there are some great workout dvds that have some plyometric training on them.  P90x Plyometrics literally change the way  you do plyometrics in your home.  It is a great workout program that will challenge you in so many ways.  Shaun T’s Insanity Workout is another recent workout that came out that offers a plyometric workout.  Both of these workouts are absolutely incredible, and are well worth doing.  Tony Horton also has a One on One workout that is solely focused on plyometric training.  The options are out there, will you be the one who gets the edge over the competition?
