Swedish massage has many benefits for those who are serious about fitness training. Some fitness centers have a separate area specifically made for this purpose. If you haven’t tried out having a Swedish massage, here are a couple of reasons that might make you want to try it out.
Swedish massage targets your muscles, helping them maintain tone and shape. The massage will promote circulation and improve blood flow to the muscles. This improved blood flow will help dilate your blood vessels, letting blood reach each areas of your body effectively and efficiently. This keeps your muscles nourished, promote production of RBC, and helps prevent atrophy and muscle injury.
The massage follows the path of your lymph system. A properly applied massage will help drive out toxins in your muscle that is causing muscle aches and pains. As you do your workout, lactic acid accumulates in the muscles. Excessive build up of these toxins can cause muscle stress, leading to burnout. The toxins are flushed through the lymph system, aiding you to continue on with your workout in a much longer duration.
As you get your massage, you become more aware of the parts of your body. Awareness comes from the applied massage techniques that your therapist use to become familiar with your body. You will suddenly notice an area that is lacking flexibility, not having enough strength, and needs support or improvement during work out. Awareness of your weak areas will help you program your training appropriately, help you protect yourself from injuries due to overexertion.
Training can be stressful and tiring. You have to constantly push yourself to do those reps properly, especially when you are trying out a heavier set of weights than usual. A Swedish massage will help sooth your stress away, making you feel more relaxed psychologically as well as physically.
These are just some of the benefits that you can get from a Swedish massage. If you do not feel like going to a massage center for a one-hour session, you can ask a therapist to do a home service instead although it is a bit more expensive.
A massage may be just what you need after doing some of our home workouts.

Let’s face it – sometimes its hard to find the time to make it to the gym, especially if you find yourself having a hard time getting off work in time to make it home for dinner. Finding time to go for your workouts might prove to be a little more difficult than having the will. This is why home workouts are so beneficial.
Home workouts provide a means for you to continue maintaining that healthy frame, while ensuring you stay lean.
For your home workout to be effective, you will need to ensure that you have at least the following within your routine:
- Warm Up: Like most things in life your body has moods. Before you begin your workout you will need to get your body in the right mood. Gently accelerating your heart into working readiness is important. Diving immediately into your workout, will put too much of a strain on your heart. For your body to efficiently burn calories, it will need to be gradually eased into this mode. Warming up also loosens your muscles and gets them ready for the next activity. Warming up will also help you from straining your muscles or causing damage to your ligaments. In every workout dvd we carry you will see that there is a warm up session at the beginning of the workout. Even in the toughest workouts with Tony Horton and P90X, he will make time to warm up the muscles before diving into the core of the workout.
- Your workout: Different forms of exercise target different sets of muscles. Chin ups will help in developing the muscles of your torso. Sit-ups will provide strengthening for your stomach and press-ups are effective for building your chest and back muscles. All three will develop the muscles of your arm. An effective work out should address most of the major muscle groups in your body. (I.e. Torso, legs and arms). For even better results, try spicing up your work out with different variations. I.e. if you are doing crunches, try the various other styles of crunches.
- Cool Down: This is just as important as warming up. Cooling down allows your muscles to slowly relax. By stretching your muscles, your body will have an easier time returning to normal mode. Cooling down also extends the rate at which your body maintains a higher metabolism. If you have the Insanity Workout, you will see Shaun T. doing the cool down session after every workout. This is to help not only your heart but also your muscles, so don’t skip the cool down!
Effective Workouts can be done from home. If you need a trainer to motivate you, there are excellent workout videos that can be bought here. Resistance bands are effective tools to have during your workout, but not all of our workout dvds require the use of resistance bands. One of the biggest benefits to resistance bands is that they strengthen your muscles giving you a better toned look.
Push up bars and chin up bars are also excellent additions to add to your home workout. Incorporating these into your day will provide you with a chance to stay fit and healthy on the days you are unable to visit the gym.

How Avoiding the Gym Helps You Avoid Comparison
Going to the gym can be a rough experience. There are days when everyone in the gym seems to be ripped, buff and beautiful. Except, of course, for you. It can feel as though you are the only person in the place who needs to drop those fifteen pounds and who needs to firm up her thighs. Some days, it can seem as though you are the only one without a blonde ponytail!
One of the best things you can do for yourself if you find yourself in a place where going to the gym is getting discouraging is to stop going. Take a break from the gym and create a different kind of workout for yourself. This break might help your self esteem, your motivation, and you wallet!
Workout out in your home can help you build your self esteem. If you have taken a long hiatus from working out, you might not want to begin again in a gym where people are watching you struggle to get back in shape. Beginning those workouts at home can give you the time and space necessary to develop your confidence again. You can struggle through those pushups and cardio challenges in the privacy of your own home, at least until you feel like you have made enough progress not to be embarrassed.
Sometimes taking a break from the gym and working out at home is good for simply because you do not have to compare yourself to anyone. It can be discouraging to be in a class at the gym with a person next to you moving easily through the workout while you are struggling. There is no way to avoid comparing yourself to that person, but if you work out at home, you might find that you are just easier on yourself in general. You might let yourself off the hook a bit more and be more satisfied with the results of your own workout.
Some people are great at sharing their workout goals with others. Some people practically paste their diet and exercise goals on their foreheads so everyone knows what they are up to. Lots of people are uncomfortable putting those goals out there. If you are more that type of person, working out at home might allow you to accomplish your goals at your own pace, in your own time, without having to discuss your progress (or lack thereof) with anyone.
Gyms are great places to find companionship and motivation. But sometimes, we all need a break.
